Your great enemies—like Jesus’ great enemies in this Gospel and like Solomon’s enemies centuries before—are defeated. That’s why every Sunday is not only a little Easter; it’s also a mini Palm Sunday, as you gather about Him and cry, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” and you rejoice with unmatchable joy that Jesus has won for you the victory. You rejoice. And your enemies—the enemies of the Gospel—hear the sound of your joy and wonder, ‘What’s all this noise?’ and discover, to their great dismay, that despite all their evil efforts, they have lost, yes, even death loses. Sin, death, the devil, and the world are all under your Victor’s feet; they have no claim or power over you.
