As wayward as you are, you are His. You don’t belong to the hireling; you belong to Him, and nothing can separate His love from you. He purchased you with His own sacred blood when He laid down His life on the Cross. Yet He who gave His life for you took up His life again; so good is He that nothing—not even death—could keep Him from tending to His flock. And so, He arose to seek out His sheep who were scattered on that dark day, along with those who were lost and wandering; He arose to bind up the broken and strengthen the weak. O Beloved, He arose for you, to find and gather you into His arms and bring you into His sheepfold—to this place, where He comes in Word and Sacrament to bind your wounds and strengthen your weak and ailing faith with the forgiveness of sins, life, and everlasting salvation.
