Sermon for Rorate Coeli, 2024

Like John, you are not worthy to serve Him in the least. And yet—miracle of miracles—He, who was before all things, humbled Himself, taking on flesh so that He might come and serve you. He came to give His life into death upon the Cross, where He serves as your substitute, paying the price your sins demanded. He came to rise from the grave as evidence that His payment for your transgressions was more than sufficient and to serve you the fruits of His death and resurrection, namely, the remission of your sins, everlasting salvation, and eternal life. In His Word and blessed Sacraments, which are likewise humble Means, He comes among you, even this day, to serve you. He washes you clean of your iniquities, creates faith, and nourishes and sustains you and the faith He has worked in you unto life everlasting.
